Customer Reviews I love this oven Date: 2007-08-23 | Rating: 5 Before buying this particular oven, I read as many product reviews as could be found. They were for a similar Hamilton Beach Oven but not this exact one. And many were quite negative. But it seemed to be just what I wanted. This would be my third countertop oven. The first one lasted over 25 years. The second one, only about 8 years. It arrived earlier than predicted, always a plus. I burned every single thing I put in it for the first week. Not the oven's fault. I'm laughing as I write this. It is so efficient and works so well and I forgot the times on the previous oven were due to it's "dying" process. So, didn't think to compensate for a "new" oven. Well, now I'm doing much better and things are marvelous from this little jewel. Cookies, main dishes, heating up sauces quickly, (I just moved, gave away my microwave and decided not to buy another), sandwiches, even toast from atisan breads are perfectly cooked. So all the burnt foods were obviously "operator error". At first, I worried what oven ware would fit into it but no worries. I now have a very tall stack of things that will fit comfortably in this oven including several 12-inch glass baking dishes for pizza and cookies. I only had to buy cookie sheets as all the rest (bread pans, muffin tins, springform cake pan, angelfood cake pan, etc) all fit inside very nicely. And best of all, the really large and oversized items can be given away, taking up less storage space in a space-challenged apt. I would buy this oven again and again. It's the best. Oh, yes, the "bell" rings at the completion of cooking times and I can hear it in the most distant places of this apt. We've had really hot weather this summer and I've so appreciated only having to heat the kitchen for very few minutes to cook meals then a very quick cool down afterwards. I've not even turned on the large stove/oven that is built in to this apt. And I don't plan to, either. This oven is all I need. Oh, yes, I've been using it since the end of July 2007 - slightly under a month and with daily usage. Great Oven for the Price Date: 2008-02-15 | Rating: 5 I bought this oven to replace one that was recalled from QVC. It not only does the same things that the CE oven did, it does them just as well and for a lesser price. While I have not tried the rotisserie, I didn't use it on the other one either, it does bake, broil and convection cook beautifully. I am single it is the perfect size and I don't have to turn on the big oven. It is very spacious on the inside, and looks nice as well. The control dials are easy to see and operate. I highly recommend this oven. So Much Oven for So Little Money! Date: 2008-07-27 | Rating: 5 I almost didn't buy this oven because the price was so low, I figured it had to be problematic. But the other glowing reviews convinced me to try, and was I pleasantly surprised! We use it out on our screen porch as our "summer oven," and it gets heavy use almost nightly -- chickens, roasts, potatoes, casseroles, you name it. The heating is even and steady, and the results are dependable. I especially like that it doesn't have any computerized elements that can fail...it is simple, based on time-tested analog technology. Can you believe, we are expanding our summer kitchen...so we just bought a second one of the same model! I'd highly recommend this to anyone who needs a good, dependable, affordable workhorse. Exterior dimensions are approx. 15 deep X 13 high X 19 wide. Interior USABLE dimensions (measured from bottom rack to upper heating element) are 12 deep X 12.5 wide X 8.5 high. Appearance is not flashy, in fact it looks cheap: black plastic and stamped metal. (At that price, who cares?) Cleaning is easy with the pull-out crumb tray. Great Countertop Oven Date: 2008-01-12 | Rating: 5 I bought this countertop oven as a Christmas present to myself. I researched for days and definately made the right choice. This is the first time I have used a convection oven and it is great. I highly recommend this oven. Plenty of room for a countertop oven. I will be using it for all my big meals that I can't fit everything in my range and for small meals. Great little oven! Date: 2007-11-17 | Rating: 5 I absolutely love this little oven! I haven't tried the rotisserie yet, but the convection, bake, and broil functions work great! I use it every chance I get instead of the big oven. |

Customer Reviews Good Toaster Oven Date: 2006-07-12 | Rating: 5 I just bought this item and it seems to work fine. The dial toaster function is different from a push button but is is just as handy, plus you can more easily set the toast time to your preference. Another handy feature of the timer is that it can be used as a TIMER ONLY. Just set the temperature to zero and use the timer for up to 30 minutes, a real bonus in a small kitchen with limited counter space. Toaster oven Date: 2007-12-21 | Rating: 5 Like this product very much, works well for toasting my large slices of homemade breads that don't fit in a regular toaster. Does the job! Date: 2007-10-24 | Rating: 4 Toasts and bakes well. I just toasted an english muffin and it came out fine. (didn't understand review about not toasting). Makes nice, crispy (not burnt) waffles. Oven gets hot fast (less pre-heat time). Compact size (I live in an apartment so that's important). I gave it only 4 stars because it's not too attractive. But, it works well! Very Good Value Date: 2007-08-28 | Rating: 4 I am very happy with this toaster oven. It has a large interior as advertised, and is easy to operate. I think it's a very good value for the price. My first toaster oven Date: 2007-10-10 | Rating: 4 This is my first toaster oven. Wanted something simple, easy to use for baking pizza and rewarming slices. This one serves that purpose. Easy to clean. I use al. foil under slices so there's no clean-up at all. |

Customer Reviews Great Toaster Date: 2008-12-24 | Rating: 5 I finally had to replace the Proctor-Silex toaster that I've had for 31 yrs. Only because the slots weren't big enough for bagles and muffins. I bought this one also made by Proctor-Silex mainly because of the track record of my old one. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some of the other ones on the market but it does make great toast evenly done on both sides. So if all you want is a great toaster at a low price then this is the one for you. KenG Happy with product Date: 2008-01-12 | Rating: 4 The toaster makes very good toast. It is a very reasonably priced product that works well. Generic but fast!! Date: 2009-11-17 | Rating: 4 Very simple toaster that looks nice and toasts very quickly and evenly. Excellent toaster for a great price. The only negative I have is that if you want to stop toasting in the middle of cooking, the only way to stop the process is to force the button up. DO NOT BUY Date: 2009-02-18 | Rating: 1 Proctor Silex 4-Slice Toaster - Black/ Chrome (24608) After just 4 uses the left side bread lifter will not stay down to start the toasting. I have never had a product break so fast. I read all the reviews and thought Proctor Silex was a good brand. |

Features - Proctor Silex 4 Slice Non-Stick Toaster Oven and Broiler, Black / Chrome - HAMILTON BEACH/PROCTOR SILEX Customer Reviews Excellent Cheap Toaster Oven! Very Happy!:) Date: 2008-11-03 | Rating: 5 I got my Proctor-Silex Black Toaster Oven 2 weeks ago. I've baked cookies and heated up links and lunch meat in it about 6 or 7 times. The cookies are a wonderful crispy texture. I had to adjust slightly the temperature (350 to 325), no biggy. I love the look, the size is compact, the black/silver matches my appliances and the price is unbeatable for the quality. I like that the door slides up and they even thought of a way to slide in reverse to clean the inside. I just love it! The answer to cooking in the summer! Date: 2008-07-28 | Rating: 5 This is my first toaster oven. I choose this product based on the reviews I read on Amazon.com. I have to say I love this little oven. The fact that the door slides up and over the oven is a real space saver for me. I have only used the oven three times but it has worked great every time. I am looking forward to using it more this Fall when I will make more meals requiring an oven/broiler/toaster. Perferct little oven Date: 2008-09-03 | Rating: 5 This is the most perfect little oven I've ever owned! Takes up very little space yet is large enough for most of my baking needs. My last toaster oven was also a Proctor Silex...which was still working after nearly 20 years but I accidently burned the cord, Don't think I'd care or have need to try another brand. If you need a toaster over...Go For It! one of a kind Date: 2007-08-04 | Rating: 5 This is a wonderful toaster oven. We have a child with disabilities that can reach on top of the counters. Most ovens have a pull down door, this one rolls back. Being a roll back deters children from opening. Love my Toaster Oven Date: 2008-04-08 | Rating: 5 I've not used my regular oven for a decade now because it's simply too hot (think global warming in Southern California and no central A/C in a 50s apartment with no insulation!). Furthermore, I've not used my Microwave in years due to it being unhealthy. Then my toaster broke down and after plenty of research and reading reviews, I finally decided to get this toaster oven. What a wonderful piece of equipment !!! I love it ! It makes the most perfect garlic and cheese toast and just now I baked one giant chocolate chip cookie with Nestle Toll House dough. Yummie :-) The toaster oven is easy to use and I especially like the "roll back" glass cover which doesn't require "door space" to the front, top or side. The oven is very easy to use, does not require much space and is simply perfect for me. |

Warranty - Dimensions: 17.1x9.8x9.1 " Customer Reviews Toasted Date: 2009-11-02 | Rating: 5 I bought this toaster oven despite some polarized reviews on various sites. I wanted a SMALL toaster oven. I listed Pros and Cons below, but let me explain. The packaging and handling was rough on this little toaster, as it had a dent. The box was sealed by manufacturer, but it looked like it was originally handled with very little care. No problem, the dent popped out and it looks normal now. The controls are very simple. It toasted quickly. The baking sheet caught all the crumbs. I wrap the baking sheet in foil to protect it and keep it clean. Baking is a snap, but you have to pay attention! First, it gets very hot. Your food sits close to the heating tube, so watch closely and turn the food. Second, this particular model does not automatically shutoff the oven. Keep your eye on it while baking! I have actually baked a small piece of fresh salmon in this toaster and it came out fantastic! It was quick and it allowed me to avoid heating up my big oven to cook such a small piece of food. It was also super easy to clean once it cooled. I unplugged it and wiped the inside with a damp rag and let it dry. I am sure this will be a great little toaster for quickly serving hors d'oeuvre for parties, too. Cons: toasts unevenly, very little height for food to bake, packaging and handling was poor, pay attention - the oven does not turn off by itself Pros: fast, easy to clean, compact, fits all sizes of bread, very effective heating, user-friendly It is a great little toaster oven! in seconds, really!!!!! Date: 2008-12-26 | Rating: 5 got this for christmas, made mozerella sticks in it last night, they literally cooked all the way through in about 4 minutes!!! i was AMAZED!!!! So easy a 5th grader can use it! Date: 2008-12-26 | Rating: 5 Fantastic time saver for parents of young cooks. While I was concerned about my 5th grader using the large gas oven to cook chicken nuggets and french fries, this new toaster/oven is just her size. The baking tray holds just the right amount for her and her six year old sister. The tray is not heavy and bulky like conventional cookie sheets and thus less chance of burning herself. I only wish there was a timer on the toaster/oven. Even without it, I am still very pleased with the ease of use. I place aluminum foil on the baking tray for easy cleanup. Concise, easy to read dials that even a 50 year old can understand. Strong enough for a man, but my girls love it too. Toasts, bakes, seems to have solved some eariler model design problems Date: 2008-06-15 | Rating: 4 After having an expensive toaster that I loved go bad on me (a Braun) and finding out that Braun no longer will be selling them so they could not replace it, I had to find one that would do the job as well. The Toastation had the same size single slot as the Braun, so I figured I would try it. While it does not toast quite as evenly as the Braun did, it is reasonably close. The toast operation is just as speedy as that was, and the added benefit is that for bigger things, or the occasional grilled cheese, I don't have to heat up the big oven, nor do I have to use up counter space for a separate toaster oven. This version has a "cancel" button in the center of the bottom dial, so when you want to pop up your toast early, it's really easy to do, unlike the earlier model. In addition, there is insulating covering on the handle for the door, so it is much less likely to burn you after using the oven part. Another bonus is that the top is smooth on this one, so there are no seams on the top for crumbs to get caught in. It also has a crumb tray that is easily removable on the bottom of the oven. Overall, this product definitely works for me. If it is still working in a few months (the Braun broke at 4 months!), I'll post an update. Very Nice Compact toaster!!!! Date: 2008-11-25 | Rating: 4 I bought this toaster about a week ago after searching hard for the smallest toaster oven I could find that simply does the "classic" things (toast /reheat/ fish sticks etc., not trying to actually cook a meal) and I am quite happy with it. At first I burnt the tops of a couple things I was heating, like a mini pizza, but I realized it simply cooked quicker than my old toaster oven and needed less time. That's a GOOD thing. The toast element is WONDERFUL. The crumb tray is great, and I've just left the bake tray in while toasting to catch the crumbs there - very easy to remove and clear. I would recommend especially if you have limited counter space like me. |

Horrible Shipping Company!!! Date: 2009-08-10 | Rating: 5 I LOVE this oven, I've had it before!! Its PERFECT for Breads, muffins, cupcakes, cookies, etc!!!BUT, I DON'T use it for ANY greasy foods....Only because the oil (from the meats, chickens, etc)splatters, and SLOWLY gets stuck on the fan part(convection setting), and after a few months, the fan for the Convection oven setting slowly stops rotating at the speed it should. Its difficult to open up, and clean off the blades to the fan also. So, but as far as the oven goes, its great, for ALL PASTRIES!!! Cooks the breads, etc, evenly, and perfectly everytime!!! Pizza works very well in here too! We make our own 12" pizzas and use this oven ALL the time!! As far as the shipping company goes,"CEVA", IT'S AWFUL,AWFUL,AWFUL.*** Amazon should change the shipping company! They were LATE, after I waited way past my delivery time, they told me they were running late, and i had to wait a few hours more. they are NOT punctual at all, and they do not ring the bell.they leave the item at the front door!! No Good!!! Terrific Little Oven Date: 2009-11-20 | Rating: 5 This is a wonderful oven BUT this model (the 31199XR) does NOT come with a rotisserie feature as advertised. I notified Amazon of this, but so far they haven't revised their description. Anyway, it does a super job with baking, broiling and convection! My experience with the shipping was a breeze ... they called and arranged for a drop off time, and were both friendly and prompt. Lovin the Oven Date: 2009-12-05 | Rating: 5 People are so conditioned to seeing a huge traditional oven/stove in the kitchen that we put a white cabinet between our other cabinets to give the "look" of a traditional oven. However, my visitors are receptive to the fact that this is the ONLY baking appliance I own - I don't make Thanksgiving turkey, so what is the point? It sits on the kitchen cart (not sandwiched between cabinets or taking counter space) to heat frozen food, bake cookies and breakfast casserole, crisp garlic bread, roast red pepper - anything your traditional oven does and more. I LOVE, LOVE the convection part! Cooking thoroughly in half the time (really-keep an eye on it at first) and if cookies are left in too long, they don't burn (could get a little dry, but that's my fault)! I opted for the one with two racks for double the cooking - and you can do that with convection; did not find a need for the rotisserie model as I don't cook meat. $100 or thereabouts - worth way more in functionality and space-saving to me. This is a great oven - but heed the complaints about shipping Date: 2009-12-11 | Rating: 5 I've been wanting a second oven for a long time but have balked at the $2500 - $3000 price (before installation). I thought this might make a great supplement, but it's more than that. Don't confuse this with old-fashioned toaster ovens. We've used it a lot for the typical small re-heating jobs, and it works fine. On Thanksgiving, my wife tried to bake some brown-and-serve rolls - they got a little too brown on the top. Turns out she hadn't turn on the convection feature. So I tried making some cornbread that bakes in a 9x9 dish. The dish fit with room to spare, and with the convection turned on, the cornbread came out just as good as if I had baked it in our regular oven. My guess is that we'll use this oven a lot. I don't plan to use the rotisserie or try to roast chicken after what some people have said about the convection fan getting gummed up and failing. Bottom line - as most have said, this is a great oven. The problem is in the shipping. Notes about the shipping: I have been an Amazon Prime customer for a couple of years now. My wife and I decided to order this oven the week before Thanksgiving so we'd have a second oven to help cook the big meal. Shipping was supposed to be the standard two day deal, and it was shipped via ABF - I'm not sure if this is the same company that others have previously complained about. On November 24, the day after we ordered it, the shipment status was updated to "Lost by carrier". It finally made it to our metro area on Dec. 1, at which point the tracking was updated to "Received shipment - did not receive paperwork," and it was marked undeliverable. I contacted Amazon, and they said if it ever arrives, I can refuse shipment or return it at Amazon's expense. We wound up buying this at Kohl's after the one from Amazon was marked as lost in transit - it was even on sale for a lower price than Amazon offered. Hot stuff Date: 2009-12-31 | Rating: 5 The oven arrived in less than a week and the shipping was free. It is good looking, easy to operate, and is very utile. We have been using the oven quite a bit and are very pleased with it. It fills the need between a full sized oven and the microwave. it is a replacement for a very old Toastmaster convection oven that has served us for many years. I really feel this oven will serve us better. |

Have it all in one appliance with the Hamilton Beach Four-Slice TotalStation™. It includes two extra-wide slots on top that fit four slices of bread or the halves of two bagels. The oven is equally spacious with enough capacity for four large pizza slices or a 9-inch personal pizza. The switch from toaster to oven is easy. The controls are familiar, with a temperature control and a shade selector on the front and a push-down lever on the side for the toaster. With stylish metal accents, the Four-Slice TotalStation™ fits nicely on any countertop. The TotalStation™ comes with auto shutoff, ready signal and a baking tray. Customer Reviews Very good toaster oven/toaster Date: 2009-04-24 | Rating: 5 I have had this Toaststation for about a month and am very happy with it. Toaster ovens are a hit and miss item for this household....we had an old Black and Decker for 15 years, but quality has gone down since then. This 4 slice toaster and oven makes really good toast - evenly brown (not easy on a toaster oven) and although I haven't baked any cupcakes, the items I have put in the oven have been done to my satisfaction. Great Toaster Combo!! Date: 2008-10-12 | Rating: 5 I originally had the two slot smaller version of this but with three kids I needed a larger toaster. Not only is this toaster larger but it seems to have some better features than the older model. It has a cancel button so that you can pop the food up if it needed and the holder bars on the bottom are sturdier than before. The toast or waffles no longer fall down inside. It toasts nicely and evenly. The toaster oven portion is a nice size. I use it to heat up things or I can fit enough chicken nuggets and fries in there for three kids. The unit itself is not too large. I have limited counter space and it fits nicely into the corner. I would definately reccommend this one to others . Comparative Date: 2009-03-22 | Rating: 5 The versatility of this appliance is sensational...allows warming to precise levels via the oven and produces superbly prepared toasts of both bread, bagels etc. It is attractive on a countertop and it allows easy cleaning Finally - a decent-sized toaster oven!! Date: 2009-07-15 | Rating: 5 I've been looking for months for a toaster oven that that is large enough to cook a small frozen pizza. It seems for the last few years that most toaster oven cooking pans have shrunk to an almost useless size. We've found that most "toaster ovens" with a larger cooking area inside are countertop convection ovens. We tried one. Our last "toaster" oven was an Oster Countertop Convection Oven. It was supposed to toast and bake. The only thing it did well was burn stuff and it definitely didn't toast well! I searched for several months until I found the "4-slice" version of the Hamilton Beach Toastation. The cooking pan is huge compared to other "toaster" ovens on the market. We've only had it a little over a month, but so far, we are really pleased with our HB Toastation. The knobs are sturdy and operation is easy. I had to order it online because I couldn't find it in a store. The shipping from Amazon was free so that helped. It arrived within a week and we've been happily using it since. Great space-saver Date: 2008-10-18 | Rating: 5 This is a nicely designed and clever product - and certainly saves on storage space. This four-slice version is large enough to reheat several slices of pizza in the toaster oven, and, of course, toast two whole bagels at once. Nice product. |

Customer Reviews Wonderful little toaster Date: 2005-10-23 | Rating: 5 When our beloved 30 year old (from dorm days!) toaster oven died, we thought we'd go buy one just like it -- basic, small, good at toasting, yet usable as a small oven. Alas, nobody seemed to make anything like it. They tended to be larger, and didn't do a good job toasting bread. After reading lost of discouraging reviews and trying a couple of toaster ovens, we had just about given up, when we saw the Toastation. What a great little unit! Makes great toast, nice and fast like a toaster should (through a slot in the top). Then flip a switch, and the top slot closes and it turns into a nice little oven. It doesn't hog the whole counter (outside dimensions: 15" wide, 7 1/2 deep, and 8 high). The inside of the oven is small (6 1/2" deep by 10 1/2" wide by 2" high), so don't plan on baking pizza in it. thermodynamics in play.... Date: 2007-05-19 | Rating: 5 Yes, it works perfectly. Provided you correct for a small physics and engineering problem in the design. This toaster/toaster oven is designed so that the wide opening for toasting bagels, english muffins, and fat waffles or bread has a sliding cover that moves into place with the flip of a lever. Once the cover is in place, all the heating upper elements are reflected downward toward the little toaster oven (6" x 9" max -- with a pan included). The lower heating elements then toast or heat from the bottom. Which is a great idea. Better to use the appliance that is the right size for the job, rather than heating a large oven for a small snack and wasting all that energy. However -- The metal plate that slides across the bagel toaster opening is just a thin piece of metal with no seals of any kind -- so if left just closed, half the heat (or more) inside the toaster oven pours out the top, around the edges of the thin metal plate (heat rises -- right?) To compensate for this loss of heat, the heating elements stay on ALL THE TIME and thus burn whatever pizza slices, cookies, or toasted cheese happens to be there. BUT this is EASY TO FIX! How do you stop heat from escaping through an unsealed barrier? You seal it! Not with grout or putty or styrofoam, or pink fiberglass -- just lay several regular sized pot holders over the bagel-toaster opening! Anything that is safe near heat will do. A silicone cake pan. A couple of damp (but not wet) kitchen cloths or sponges. My pot holders are thick terry and they worked perfectly. As soon as I insulated the top of the toaster against heat loss -- the heating element worked efficiently and came on only occasionally to keep the temperature up. (as oppsed to running non-stop if the top was left not insulated.) This is a small bit of on-the-fly rigging to correct for what the toaster's designers couldn't manage to figure out. All that said, this is the first toaster I've ever used daily in 50 odd years -- because it's the right size for the job. excellent Date: 2006-04-14 | Rating: 5 Didn't think it was possible to get a machine that can toast and warms/cooks and do both well. The unit has a slot on the top, so if you want to do convetional toast, you stick the pieces in the slot and toast away. If you want to heat a croissant or a danish, then you slide the button to cook, the upper slot closes and you can put the item on the oven tray and heat. The oven tray is narrow but perfect for heating breakfast type items. I cooked a frozen piece of pizza just fine. The unit is smaller than a toaster and a toaster oven. It does not give the appearance of any great quality but it does work excatly the way you want it. Its perfect. Unexpected Pleasure Date: 2005-10-28 | Rating: 5 We are very high tech about many of our gadgets, but decidely low tech about things like toasters. Our small oven needs include making toast, heating up items that are not microwave friendly, and doing some baking of items like fresh fish fillets. We also wanted to conserve on countertop space. Many of the toaster ovens on the market now seem to be built for cooking small turkeys and are sized for MacMansions. When we ran across this little gem were stopped in our tracks - small footprint, slot in the top for toast, oven space for our wild salmon, and it's also very attractive looking (more so than the picture). We bought it, we love it. Best Basic Toaster Date: 2007-01-10 | Rating: 5 I haven't had any problems with this unit. It's a toaster after all, pretty simple! The boys love being able to stick their bagels in the top like a pop-up. If you want to make something messier, put it in the oven on the tray. It is perfect as a small, cheap, covers all the bases toaster. The oven is large enough for 2 slices of bread or one standard slice of pizza. If you want to make anything bigger then this is not the one you're looking for. If you just want to make toast or heat up a single serving this is the one. And what'd I pay, $30 w/ free shipping? Perfect! It works! That's all I ask of it! Choosing a toaster was never meant to be a life-altering decision, and this one isn't priced like a major appliance so stop reading all the reviews and just pick one. You want golden crispy bread? You got it. You want 5-course gourmet? Don't shove it in the toaster! Use the rest of the kitchen or go out. |

Customer Reviews Top-notch Date: 2004-10-22 | Rating: 5 I bought this product at Sam's Club the other day. The product is great and I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in a rotisserie. Having a regular toaster oven and a convection oven in the same unit is a great bonus! The unit comes with two wire shelves, two pizza racks (like cookie sheets but with holes in the bottom; great for Hot Pockets) that fit on top of the wire shelves, a 1" deep backing pan, a wire rack that fits inside the backing pan, two rotisserie forks (for holding the meat on the spic), a rotisserie spic, and a rotisserie handle (for lifting it out of a hot oven). Installation: A piece of cake. The unit comes packed in Styrofoam with the shelves and pans inside the unit; the rotisserie accessories came loose in the box but bagged in plastic. All I had to do was to wipe it down, wash the racks, and plug the box in. Performance of the toaster oven: It toasts but boy is there a lot of room in here. Performance of the convection oven: Never having used one before, I was surprised by the fans going off in the oven. But it did its job well cooking a pair of Hot Pockets to crispy perfection in just a little more time than the microwave. Homemade pot pies also cook very well. Performance of the rotisserie: Great! I've cooked a beef roast and a Rock Cornish Hen and they came out so flavorful, tender, and juicy. The fat melts off this way and the drippings end up at the bottom. Make sure to cover it with a piece of foil. The unit says it can do up to a 7 ½ lb. bird, but I've only tried up to 4 lbs. Cleanup: The bottom pan slides out for easy cleanup. Overall I recommend this unit. Although I've never had a rotisserie or a convection oven to compare it to, it is world's better than my toaster oven. It is also ½ the price of the George Forman unit plus adds more. How can one go wrong? A Very Good Small Oven Date: 2005-05-31 | Rating: 5 Actual rating 4 1/2 stars. A half point deduction for door misalignment. The door doesn't seal like it's suppose to. It's not really a seal but a much larger gap than allowed. Either the the frame or the door is slightly warped. A minor error, however, as it still bakes near perfectly and I didn't detected any real heat escaping. I still consider the build of the oven very good. I tested all features and they work excellent. Convection is very good and cooks much faster and is quiet. Much more quiet than the Toastmaster convection which was extremely noisy! This feature is also handy for quick warm-ups or making bread rise. The rotisserie also works very good. You must tie the the chicken up well, however. The timer does not exactly stop on zero. It seems to go on 2 minutes or more. Again, a minor thing. Just compensate for this. It could be because the timer is also the on\off switch. Using a drugstore temperature gauge I found the reading between the gauge and the oven off by about 25-50 degrees. However, everything cooks excellent using the oven degree markings. No undercooked items. In fact, this thing cooks much faster than recommended time in most recipes, sometimes much faster! For instance, on its rotisserie feature I found a 3 1/2 pound chicken could of been done about 15 minutes (or more) earlier than the recommended 2 hours! A roll recipe I found bakes about 25% faster than the recipe called for and I didn't even use the convection feature for either! (Note: The oven degree reading and the drugstore temp gauge reading were the same when using the convection feature.) One caveat: I did find the the broil feature slightly weak for red meats, (it more like bakes it) but it did cook the fish nicely (crisp skin) at near exact recommened times. When using this oven over 400 degrees the sides and top of the oven gets hot, including the controls! I must note this oven has no insulation of any kind. It also has no oven light, but one is not really needed, but it would be nice. Includes a pamphlet type cookbook that is only a guide, but it does give sample recipes for every feature. Enough to get you started on what it is capable of. Includes two racks, a roast pan with separate grill rack, and a aluminium pizza pan with small holes througout. For handy cleanups the bottom of the oven can be easily pulled out and washed. To give you some idea of its size, it can handle a 12" pizza, two if you have another of its pizza pan. (Though I never tried it). The rotisserie can handle up to a 5lb chicken. The oven a 7lb roast chicken. The oven interior is about 12" front to back (not including curved glass door), about 13" side to side, and about 10" from top burner coil to bottom burner coil, with each coil about 1/4" to 1" away from the metal surface respectively. The roast pan that comes with it has an inside dimension (excluding the lips) of about 11 1/2" by 9 3/4". Overall, a very good small oven for the price. Better than the book! Date: 2005-01-24 | Rating: 5 I love this oven! You can reheat fried foods with the convection oven to get things nice & crispy instead of soggy, like a microwave. In fact, it is good enough to fry without oil, such as spraying sliced potatoes with Pam & then convectioning them until they are crisp outside & tender inside. The Rotiserie is a little small (it only holds 4 pounds) and you need good cotten string to tie wings & anything else that may flop when turning. But the food comes out a nice golden brown while being juicy inside. However, you can sit a 7 pound roast on top of the roasting rack and still have vegetables in the roasting tray. The Pizza tray also works well with cookies, but make sure you flatten the pizza dough just before cooking if you plan to use the convection setting instead of the bake setting, since it makes breads rise higher as well as cook faster. My only complaint was the instruction manual. Having been advertised as having a "Toaster" feature at Sam's, it didn't have instructions for making toast. I called the help number & learned that after preheating for 10 minutes, you can 'broil' bread on the top shelf for 2 minutes, turn over & cook another 2 minutes for toast. You seem to need to preheat the oven for 10 minutes for most cooking tasks. The Outside of the oven becomes hot enough to melt plastic left on it while cooking, so only set metal on top of it (like its accessories). I love it Date: 2005-01-18 | Rating: 5 Pros: This oven serves me quite well for all of my baking and broiling needs. I like that you can choose between bake and convection bake so that you don't have to use the convection feature if you don't want to. When using convection the fan is nice and quiet. I like having a timer so that I can leave the kitchen and not worry about burning something. The timer bell is perfect - one solid ding that you can hear from another room. Having two racks is great since you can have two things going at the same time. My oven is on a cart at eye level and several people have commented on how good looking it is. The way the crumb tray slides out easily without even opening the oven door is the most convenient I've ever seen. I've had my oven for 2.5 months and so far I am as happy as can be with it. I've made all kinds of things - homemade rolls, Christmas cookies, Mahi-Mahi fillets, pizza, roasted veggies, just to name a few, and everything turns out good. Cons: The instruction booklet is laughable, it contains no useful information at all. I want to buy a convection cooking cookbook, mostly to learn how to dehydrate stuff. If you are a toast lover you will need a separate appliance for that because this oven is too tall to cook both sides of a slice of bread at once. My oven came with one pizza pan, one baking/broiling pan with rack, two oven racks, and the rotisserie kit. I have not used the rotisserie feature yet. UPDATE - May 19, 2007 - here it is well over two years later and the oven is still working perfectly. So glad I picked this one. July 24, 2009 - Still going strong as my only oven! Only one thing showing wear and that is the door handle. It's loose but still attached. I hope it holds on!! By the way - I can make toast with this oven after all - I use the top rack in its highest slot, set the oven on "broil" and when the top of the bread is toasted I turn it over to do the other side. It would be easier to have a toaster but my kitchen is so small I don't know where I'd put one. Truely a one-of-a-kind appliance! Date: 2005-04-05 | Rating: 5 This appliance is great for those that don't have a full-size oven or want the effeciency of a small convection oven. It fit's a lot more than a toaster "oven," so it can actually be treated like an oven. It works great for beef, poultry, breads, cakes, pizzas, and just about anything you can cook in a large oven. Having never used a convection oven, it does wonders for meats- but don't use it on breads (including pizzas) or cakes, though, because the outside will cook much faster than the inside. My only complaint is that the pizza tray warps initially when it comes in contact with a frozen pizza every time it's used, but after the pizza heats up the tray flattens out again. This appliance is really a lifesaver as a college student, since I can actually come close to re-creating "home cooking" (granted, it's not my mom cooking, but OK). One more thing- this really is like an oven, so it really doesn't work for toast. I recently purchased this from a local Target- which actually was only $70. There really is no home appliance like this in the market- just large "toaster ovens," and fortunately there doesn't need to be! |
